Understanding Notifications

Notifications in your app serve as a vital communication tool to keep your members informed about important updates, new content, and other relevant activities. There are several types of notifications you can configure:

Types of Notifications

  1. Banners: These are important notices that appear at the top of the app. They can be used for promotions, maintenance notices, or general information.

  2. Announcements: Rich messages that can include media and allow members to react. These can be targeted to specific member groups.

  3. In-App Notifications: Notifications that appear in the notification bell, informing users about activities relevant to them, such as replies to comments or new content updates.

Banner Configuration

Banners are a great way to communicate urgent messages to your members. Here’s how to manage them:

  • Location: Banners appear at the top of the app, overlaying the header.

  • Dismissal Options: You can set banners to be dismissed permanently or just for the session.

  • Message Length: Keep messages concise, with a maximum of 150 characters.

Creating a Banner

  1. Go to App Station > Members & Engagement > Announcements > Banners tab.

  2. Click Create New Banner.

  3. Fill in the banner message, select a variant (info, warning, promo, maintenance), and choose the display mode.

  4. Save your banner.

Announcement Management

Announcements allow for more detailed communication with your members. You can include images, videos, and even allow reactions.

  • Creating an Announcement: Navigate to App Station > Members & Engagement > Announcements and click Create New Announcement.

  • Targeting: You can choose who sees the announcement (all users, members only, or guests only).

In-App Notifications

These notifications keep members updated on their interactions within the app. They can include:

  • Comment replies

  • Forum mentions

  • Content updates

Configuring Notification Channels

You can control which notification channels (email, push) are available for each type of notification event. This is done in the App Station > Module Settings > Engagement > Notifications tab.

Supported Event Types

You can enable or disable notifications for various events, including:

  • New meal plans published

  • New blog posts published

  • New topics in forums

  • Activity in forum topics

Push Notifications

To enable push notifications, ensure that your app is configured correctly. You need to have:

  1. PWA enabled

  2. Push notifications enabled

  3. Proper configuration for the push notification service

If any of these are missing, the push notification options will be disabled in the admin interface.

Customizing Email Templates

You can customize the email templates used for notifications. This is managed at App Station > Settings > Email Templates > Notifications tab.

Template Types

Each notification type has a default email template that you can edit. You can customize the subject line, body content, and even the push notification text.

Testing Templates

Use the Test Email feature to send a preview email to yourself to ensure everything looks good before sending it to your members.
