Platform 2 Guide — This article applies to the new platform. Looking for classic platform docs? Browse the Platform 1 collection.
Why: Allowing members to adjust serving sizes or yields enhances their cooking experience, making it easier to prepare meals that fit their needs. This flexibility can lead to increased satisfaction and engagement with your app.
Navigate: App Station > Content Library > Recipes > [Recipe] > Settings
Quick Start
Go to the Content Library in App Station.
Select a recipe to edit.
In the Settings tab, toggle the "Allow Scaling" switch to enable or disable scaling.
Choose the appropriate Output type (Servings or Yield) for the recipe.
Save your changes.
SERVINGS-BASED SCALING
When a recipe uses servings mode, members can easily adjust the number of servings they want to prepare. For example, if a recipe is set for 4 servings, a member can change it to 2 servings, and the ingredient quantities will scale proportionally.
The scaling control displays a servings selector, allowing members to choose their desired serving size. It's important to note that the nutrition information on the recipe page is always shown per 1 serving, regardless of the selected serving count.
YIELD-BASED SCALING
In contrast, yield-based recipes focus on a physical output, such as weight or volume. For example, a recipe may state it produces 3 cups of a sauce. Members can adjust the yield amount (e.g., change from 3 cups to 1.5 cups), and the ingredient quantities will scale accordingly.
The scaling control will show the yield unit instead of a servings count. Similar to servings mode, nutrition information is always displayed per 1 yield unit (e.g., per 1 cup), regardless of the selected yield amount. The scale factor is calculated by dividing the selected amount by the recipe's base yield.
ENABLING/DISABLING SCALING
As an admin, you have the ability to control scaling globally or on a per-recipe basis.
Global Control: Navigate to the Features settings in App Station to enable or disable scaling for all recipes.
Per-Recipe Control: In the Settings tab of the Recipe Editor, you can toggle the "Allow Scaling" switch for individual recipes.
When scaling is disabled, servings or yield amounts will display as static text, and members will not be able to adjust them. You can also control the scaling display style per-template, choosing between options like select, stepper, or slider.
WHAT SCALES
When scaling is enabled, the following elements will scale:
Ingredient quantities will adjust based on the selected servings or yield.
Step text that includes inline ingredient references will also scale accordingly.
However, nutrition values on the recipe page do not scale; they are always displayed per 1 serving or per 1 yield unit.
Members can access scaling features directly on the recipe detail page, allowing them to customize their cooking experience seamlessly.
