How Things Work: Key Rules to Know

Updated yesterday

Why: Understanding these key rules helps you manage your app effectively, ensuring your members have a smooth experience and access to the right content.

Navigate: This is a reference article covering how the platform behaves behind the scenes.

Content and Access

  • Content without access level restrictions is public and viewable by anyone.

  • Content can require any of multiple access levels, meaning it uses OR logic. If a member has any access level that allows viewing, they can see the content.

  • As an admin, you always have access to everything, regardless of access level settings.

  • Content must be published to be accessible to members. If it's not published, it won't be visible.

  • Content grants allow you to give specific members access to content, overriding any other access restrictions.

Subscriptions

  • Members can only have one active subscription per subscription group. If they try to purchase another, they will be redirected to manage their existing subscription.

  • Once an offer is synced with payments, the price and billing interval are locked and cannot be changed.

Meal Plans and Shopping Lists

  • Recipes marked as leftovers in a meal plan are excluded from shopping lists.

  • Ingredients in shopping lists are combined if they share the same ingredient and aisle.

  • Component ingredients from recipes are included automatically unless the parent recipe is marked as leftovers.

Nutrition

  • Nutrition values are calculated automatically from ingredients by default.

  • You can override nutrition values at the recipe level if needed.

  • Nutrition from component recipes is included in calculations, but only one level deep. Nested components are not included.

Members

  • Member-created recipes and meal plans are private and only visible to the member who created them.

  • Members cannot edit nutrition values directly; they see calculated values as read-only.

  • Member-created content does not trigger notifications when published, keeping their activity private.
