What is Preview Mode?

Preview Mode is a feature that allows you to temporarily view your app as a member or guest would, without needing to log out of your admin account. This is particularly useful for verifying that your content and access levels are set up correctly.

How to Access Preview Mode

To access Preview Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Preview section in App Station.

  2. Choose whether you want to preview as a Guest or as a member with a specific Access Level.

  3. If selecting an access level, pick the one you want to preview.

  4. Click the Start Preview button to begin.

Understanding Preview Users

When you start a preview, the system creates temporary users called Preview Users that represent the different access levels. These users allow you to see how your app behaves for members with specific permissions.

  • Guest Preview User: Represents users who do not have an account.

  • Access Level Preview Users: Created for each access level you set up.

These users cannot log in directly and are automatically managed by the system.

What Happens in Preview Mode?

While in Preview Mode, your admin session is temporarily replaced with a preview user's session. This means:

  • You can navigate your app as if you were a member.

  • All access controls are active, so you can see exactly what your members will see.

  • Actions that modify content are blocked to ensure that no changes are made while previewing.

Exiting Preview Mode

To exit Preview Mode and return to your admin account:

  1. Look for the Exit button in the fixed banner at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Click it to restore your admin session.

The preview session will also automatically expire after 15 minutes or if you navigate to any App Station route.

Tips for Using Preview Mode

Tip: Use Preview Mode regularly to check your content and access levels before publishing updates. This can help you catch any issues early and ensure a smooth experience for your members.

Common Questions

  • What if I can't see the preview? Ensure that you have access levels set up and that preview users exist for your app. If issues persist, check your settings in App Station.

  • Can I make changes while in preview mode? No, all actions that modify content are blocked to prevent unintended changes.
