Why: Understanding how content access works helps you manage what your members can see, ensuring they receive the right content while also encouraging upgrades for locked features.

Navigate: App Station > App Settings > Access Levels

Quick Start

  1. Go to App Station.

  2. Click on App Settings.

  3. Select Access Levels.

  4. Configure the showLockedContent setting for each access level.

  5. Set content visibility to PUBLIC, MEMBERS, or ASSIGNED as needed.

Content Visibility Modes

In Member Kitchens, content visibility is controlled through three main modes:

  • PUBLIC: Open to everyone, including guests.

  • MEMBERS: Requires specific access levels. Users without the necessary access see the content as locked or hidden.

  • ASSIGNED: Only users with a direct content grant can view it. This content is completely hidden from all public listings.

How Access Levels Control Visibility

Access levels determine what content your members can see. The system checks access in the following order:

  1. Is the user an admin? If yes, they have full access.

  2. Does the user have a direct content grant? If yes, they have full access.

  3. Is the content set to PUBLIC? If yes, it’s accessible to everyone.

  4. Does the user have any access level that grants all content? If yes, they have full access.

  5. Does the user have any of the content's required access levels? If yes, they have full access.

If none of these conditions are met, the content will either be locked (with an upgrade prompt) or hidden based on your settings.

Direct Content Grants

As an admin, you can manually grant specific content to specific users. This bypasses all access level requirements, ensuring that those users can access the content directly.

Teasers for Locked Content

When a member attempts to access content they do not have permission for, they may see a teaser instead of the full content. This teaser includes:

  • A partial preview of the content.

  • A call-to-action for guests to sign up or log in.

  • Upgrade options for members who need a higher access level.

Configuring Teasers

You can configure how locked content is displayed through the Detail Templates in App Station:

  1. Open App Station and navigate to Detail Templates.

  2. Edit the desired template.

  3. Click on Locked Content Teaser in the sidebar.

  4. Select which blocks to show in the teaser view.

  5. Choose whether to blur hidden blocks.

By default, teasers show certain blocks, such as headers and metadata, while blurring any hidden blocks.

Access Level Settings

Each access level has a setting called showLockedContent:

  • True (default): Users see locked content with an upgrade prompt.

  • False: Users do not see locked content at all; it is hidden completely.

If a user has multiple access levels, the most permissive setting wins. If any of their access levels allows for showing locked content, they will see it. If all access levels hide locked content, then it will be hidden.

Guest Behavior

Guests, or users without any access levels, will see locked content by default. This prompts them to sign up or purchase an offer to gain access.

Summary of Access Logic

Here's a quick overview of who can see what:

  • Admin/Superadmin: Full access to all content.

  • User with required access level: Full access to members-only content.

  • User without required access level:

    • If showLockedContent=true: Sees locked content with a prompt.

    • If showLockedContent=false: Content is hidden.

  • Guest: Sees locked content by default.
