Understanding Notifications
Notifications in your app serve as a vital communication tool to keep your members informed about important updates, new content, and community interactions. There are several types of notifications you can set up:
In-App Notifications: Alerts that appear in the notification bell for user activity relevant to members, such as replies to comments or new topics in forums.
Email Notifications: Emails sent to members about new content or updates.
Push Notifications: Messages sent directly to members' devices when they have your app installed.
Types of Notifications
In-App Notifications: These notifications inform members about activities like comment replies, forum mentions, and content updates. They can be accessed via the notification bell in the app header.
Email Notifications: You can customize email templates for various notification types, such as when a new meal plan or blog post is published.
Push Notifications: These require the app to be installed on the member's device. Members can manage their preferences for push notifications in their profile settings.
Configuring Notification Settings
You can control which notification channels are available for each event type in your app. Here’s how to configure these settings:
Access the Notifications Tab: Navigate to the Notifications tab under Engagement & Community in the App Station.
Enable or Disable Channels: For each event type, you can enable or disable email and push notifications. This allows you to customize how members receive updates based on their preferences.
Supported Event Types
You can configure notifications for the following events:
MEAL_PLAN_PUBLISHED: Notify members when a new meal plan is published.
BLOG_POST_PUBLISHED: Notify members when a new blog post is published.
FORUM_NEW_TOPIC: Notify members when a new topic is posted in a category they subscribe to.
FORUM_TOPIC_ACTIVITY: Notify members when someone replies to a topic they participated in.
Note: Email and push notifications are only sent for admin-created content and do not apply to member-created meal plans.
Managing Push Notifications
To enable push notifications, ensure the following conditions are met:
PWA Enabled: Your app must have the Progressive Web App (PWA) feature enabled.
Push Enabled: Push notifications must be activated in your app settings.
Configuration: Ensure your push notification service is properly configured.
Members can manage their push notification preferences directly from their profile under Profile > Notifications. Here, they can subscribe or unsubscribe from notifications based on their preferences.
Push Notification Delivery
Push notifications can be delivered using two methods:
Filtered Batch: This method is used for fewer than 50 recipients and involves sending notifications in a single batch.
Tag-Based Sending: For larger groups, this method allows for more efficient delivery by sending notifications to user tags rather than individual IDs.
Customizing Email Templates
You can customize the email templates for notifications to ensure they align with your brand. This is done in the Email section under Templates in the App Station.
Template Types
You can customize templates for various events, including:
New meal plans
New blog posts
Forum topics and replies
Each template allows you to edit the subject line, body content, and call-to-action button text.
