Understanding the Allergen System
The allergen management system is designed to help you keep track of allergens in your recipes and ensure your members can filter content according to their dietary needs. Here’s how it works:
FDA Major Allergens
The system tracks the 9 FDA major allergens required for labeling:
MILK
EGGS
FISH
SHELLFISH
TREE_NUTS
PEANUTS
WHEAT
SOYBEANS
SESAME
These allergens are essential for ensuring that your members can avoid ingredients that may cause allergic reactions.
Setting Up Allergen Information
As an admin, you can manage allergen information for ingredients in your app. Here’s how:
Navigate to the Allergens Settings: Go to App Station > Settings > Allergens.
Select an Ingredient: Choose an app default ingredient that you want to edit.
Edit Allergen Information: In the Allergens section, you can select or deselect allergens based on the ingredient's properties.
Automatic Saving: Your changes will automatically save after 1 second of inactivity, so you don’t have to worry about losing your updates.
How Members Filter Content by Allergens
Once you’ve set up allergen information, your members can filter recipes and other content based on their allergen preferences. This ensures they only see options that are safe for them to consume.
Allergen Detection During Ingredient Import
When you import ingredients, the system uses AI to detect allergens based on ingredient names and USDA categories. If the AI is unavailable, it falls back on rule-based detection to ensure accuracy. This means you can trust that the allergen information is reliable and up-to-date.
Automatic Updates
You don’t need to manually update allergen flags. The system automatically recalculates allergen information for recipes whenever you make changes to the ingredients. This ensures that your members always have access to the most accurate allergen information.
