Adding members to your challenge

Updated this week

๐Ÿ” Controlling Who Can Access the Challenge

Just like recipes, meal plans, and other premium content in your app, you can control which subscription levels are allowed to join the Challenge. This means you can offer Challenges as part of specific membership tiers โ€” or use them as a powerful upgrade incentive.

How to Set Access

In the Members tab of the Challenge setup:

  1. Look for Authorized Subscriptions

  2. Select the subscription tiers that should be able to access this Challenge (e.g., Silver, Gold)

  3. Only members in those tiers will see and be able to join the Challenge inside the app

This ensures the Challenge is shown only to the audience itโ€™s intended for.

๐Ÿšซ What About Freemium Users?

Freemium users never have access to Challenges.
Challenges are always considered premium content and require an active subscription to access.

This means:

  • Free / guest users will see the Challenge listed as locked

  • Viewing or joining requires upgrading

๐Ÿ’ก Many creators use Challenges as a main reason to upgrade โ€” because guided programs feel more valuable and actionable than general recipe browsing.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Adding Members to Your Challenge

Once youโ€™ve created your Challenge attributes, the next step is to configure how members will join. This allows your community to join the Challenge, unlock the content youโ€™ve prepared, and start progressing through it.

How members join your Challenge depends on whether your Challenge is set up as Solo, Invite only, or Group mode. Weโ€™ll walk through those below.

๐Ÿฅ„ How Members Can Join a Solo Challenge

Solo Challenges are โ€œstart anytimeโ€ experiences.
Members can join on their own โ€” no manual enrollment required.

Member experience:

  1. A member opens your app.

  2. They view the Challenge.

  3. They tap Join Challenge.

  4. The Challenge starts immediately for them based on the step schedule youโ€™ve set.

๐Ÿ”Ž Use Solo Challenges for evergreen programs, onboarding, or always-available courses.

Auto-join new members

You can also configure your Solo challenge to automatically enroll a new user of your app! Anytime a new member account is created, the member will automatically be enrolled in the challenge IF their subscription matches the subscription for the challenge that you set above.

๐ŸŽ‰ How Members Can Join a Group Challenge

Group Challenges are designed for everyone to start together on a specific date.
This is ideal for launches, hype-building, and shared progress. You open the enrollment window in advance of the timeline start date, so you can give members some time to join. Then on the timeline start date, everybody proceeds down the same path at the same time.

There are two ways to add members:

1. Members join themselves

You share the Challenge link or announce it in your community.
Members tap Join Challenge and will automatically start when the Challenge begins. It will appear on the Challenges panel.

2. You manually add members

This is helpful if:

  • You want to enroll members all at once

  • Youโ€™re onboarding members from another platform

See below

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป Manually Adding Members

  1. Go to Challenges in your Kitchen Prep.

  2. Select the Challenge you want to add members to.

  3. Click Members.

  4. Search for the member by name or email and select.

The member will now appear in your participant list.

You can tap the X to remove a member:

โœจ Once added, the member will gain access to the Challenge on the scheduled start date (if group mode) or immediately (if solo).

Enrolling all existing members

As the admin, you may add all eligible members (those with a subscription matching the ones you chose above) at once. For Group challenges, they will all start together when the timeline starts. For other types of challenges, they will start when the challenge is published.

๐Ÿ Starting the Challenge for Group Participants

If your Challenge has a start date, members will automatically begin on that date โ€” if you have published the challenge.

๐Ÿฅณ Tip: Announce the kickoff via email, community post, or your socials to increase engagement.

๐Ÿšซ Removing a Member

If a member joined by mistake or needs to be removed:

  1. Open the Challenge

  2. Go to Members

  3. Find the member

  4. Click the X to Remove

This will stop their progress and remove their access.

If a member is removed and then rejoins or is added to the same challenge, all notifications previously sent, will be sent again.
