Building your challenge timeline

Updated this week

🗓️ Building Your Challenge Timeline

Your Challenge Timeline controls what your members see and when they see it.
This is where you create the step-by-step flow of the Challenge — guiding members through content releases, limited-time access, and reminders.

The timeline uses a drag-and-drop builder, so you can easily reorder steps.

⏱ How Timeline Steps Work

Each step in the timeline has a Days Offset, which controls when the step occurs.

  • The first action’s offset is the number of days after the member joins or the group start date.

  • Each following action’s offset is the number of days after the previous step.

  • An offset of 0 means the step will run on the same day as the previous step.

This gives you complete control — from daily steps, to weekly phases, to multi-step same-day releases.

Example:
Day 0 → Welcome message
Day 1 → Show meal plan
Day 1 (offset 0) → Show recipes and a resource item alongside meal plan
Day 7 → Hide content + send final message

🧱 Types of Timeline Actions

There are three types of actions you can add to a challenge timeline:

Action Type

What It Does

Best For

Show Content

Makes content available to members

Reveal new recipes, meal plans, or resources

Hide Content

Hides content that was previously shown

Limited-time access, weekly reset, phased unlocks

Notification

Sends a message to participants

Welcome messages, reminders, encouragement, next steps

Let’s look at each one.

🍽️ Show Content

This step reveals content that members gain access to at that point in the challenge.

When adding a Show Content step, you can:

  • Give the step a title and summary
→ Members will see both on the Challenge screen.

  • Select which items to show:
    ✅ Recipes
    ✅ Meal Plans
    ✅ Meal Plan Collections
    ✅ Resource Items

The title and summary are displayed to the member to help introduce what they’re unlocking.

🫥 Hide Content

Hide Content allows you to remove content that was previously shown earlier in the timeline.

This is useful for:

  • Limited-time meal plans

  • Weekly rotations

  • Resetting a challenge phase before the next one begins

Note: You can only hide content that was displayed earlier in the timeline.

At the end of the challenge, all content remains in the last state of the timeline — nothing “auto resets” unless you explicitly hide it.

🔔 Notifications

Notification steps send messages to help maintain momentum.

Each notification step uses one template that applies to:

  • Email

  • Push Alerts

  • In-App Alerts

Members can control whether they receive email or push in their Profile Settings, just like all other notifications in your app.

✨ Dynamic Data (using @)

You can personalize notifications by typing @ to insert dynamic fields (like the , challenge title, challenge summary, etc.).

🧪 Testing Notifications

Click Test Notification to send yourself a sample.
This lets you preview:

  • How the message reads

  • How dynamic fields populate

  • How it will appear to members

Adding steps

Your first step must be either a Notification or Show content

Steps can be added after any existing step. You choose the type of step this will be when adding.

🧲 Drag & Drop Editing

You can reorder actions at any time by simply dragging them.
When steps move, their Days Offset adjusts automatically so the timeline remains consistent.

Any step can be deleted — the timeline will update around it.

The move icon is shown when the step is collapsed.

Moving steps can cause unintended consequences. For example, moving a Hide step to a position before the content is shown, will invalidate the Hide step. Be sure to review the timeline when publishing.

🧭 Tips for Designing a Smooth Timeline

  • Use 0-day offsets to group related actions on the same day

  • Keep step titles clear and simple — members should always know why a step is happening

  • Include periodic notification steps to re-engage members, especially in longer challenges

  • Preview your timeline as a member once it’s created — if it feels confusing, simplify
