Understanding Recipe Serving Scaling

The Recipe Serving Scaling feature allows you to control whether your members can adjust the number of servings for recipes. When scaling is enabled (which is the default setting), members can change the number of servings, and the ingredient quantities will automatically adjust. If scaling is disabled, the serving size will be displayed as static text, showing the original serving size only.

When to Disable Scaling

You might consider disabling recipe scaling in the following scenarios:

  • Your recipes are precisely calibrated and do not scale well.

  • You want to simplify the user experience for your members.

  • The nutritional information is only accurate at the base serving size.

  • You are using recipes that involve techniques that do not scale linearly, such as baking.

Configuring Recipe Scaling

To enable or disable recipe serving scaling for your app, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Content Library in the App Station.

  2. Select Recipes and choose the specific recipe you want to configure.

  3. Click on the Settings tab.

  4. Find the Recipe Scaling switch and toggle it to your preferred setting.

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

How Scaling Affects Recipe Display

  • When Scaling is Enabled:

    • Members see a servings control on the recipe detail page, allowing them to select the number of servings.

    • Ingredient quantities adjust dynamically based on the selected servings.

  • When Scaling is Disabled:

    • Members will only see the original serving size displayed as static text (e.g., "4 servings").

    • No servings control will be visible, and ingredient quantities will remain fixed.

Per-Template Control

You can also manage scaling on a per-template basis. This allows different templates to have different scaling behaviors, even if the global scaling feature is enabled. Here are the options:

  • Show/Hide Servings Control: You can choose to show or hide the servings control in the recipe ingredients block.

  • Control Style: Select the style of the servings control (options include select, stepper, or slider).
